OUR MISSION is to support equity in education and bridge Kingston's digital divide by providing affordable or fully-sponsored (free) laptops to disadvantaged students who need them to learn and reach their full potential.
Hello!
I am Gabriel Bergeron, the Founder of SLAP! Student Laptop Access Program.
I'm a Grade 12 student at Bayridge Secondary School. I was recently awarded the Senior Gold Medal for the highest academic standing at my school.
I am privileged to have the resources I need to participate and contribute in a digital learning environment. Not all Kingston students are so fortunate.
By grade 10, I began to notice that some students were falling behind in school.
Digital Learning Environment
Learning at the secondary school level is increasingly a digital exercise.
Teachers post classwork, instructions, assignments, due dates and more on a digital platform (Minds Online)
Students engage with academic resources online (Khan Academy, and other tutoring sites)
Online research is expected in secondary school
Students collaborate on shared digital documents and projects
Online communication with teachers and peers
Students connect socially through their online student community
Students apply for summer jobs and complete university applications online
Digital Literacy is an essential skill

The Digital Divide is the gap between students who own laptops and students who do not own laptops.

Our Laptops
We are proud to source all of our laptops from ReBOOT Canada, a registered charity that, for the past 30 years, has provided new and/or refurbished computers to low-income applicants.
Premium ReBOOT Laptops cost $320, including delivery, and come with a 90-day hardware guarantee.
